What is a system boiler?
A system boiler has all the major components of the heating and hot water system, including the pump and expansion vessel, built in. The boiler heats up water in a sealed hot water cylinder, usually found in the airing cupboard, for hot water taps around the home. There is no need for a feed or expansion cistern in the loft, which saves space and eliminates the risk of any leaks or frost damage to pipes and tanks.
System boilers provide a high flow rate of hot water to deliver quick filling baths or powerful showers, thanks to the in-built pump, without the water running cold elsewhere in the house. They are compatible with unvented hot water storage cylinders, such as the new range of Baxi cylinders and Megaflo Eco.
The Building Regulations changed in April 2018, known as Boiler Plus, and now all boiler installations must include a timer and room thermostat.
